The Language of Parliament
Turning parliamentary transcripts into a visual comparison of politicians’ vocabulary, recurring phrases and sentence length.
Which words do politicians choose?
I analysed stenographic parliamentary records and brought the results into a print story. Word diversity and sentence length provide quantitative comparisons, while portraits and speech bubbles show frequent terms, associated words and recurring phrases.
The layout gives readers two ways into the material: compare the summary charts, or explore the language of an individual politician.
