Climate Change and the Future of Snow

A visual story connecting local snowfall records with projections of a changing Alpine winter.

Why is the snow disappearing?

The spread pairs annual new snow in Vienna with a long-run winter-precipitation series from the Kitzbühel valley. A map then widens the view to projected changes in snow-cover days, alongside possible consequences for Alpine ecosystems and communities.

The map is a projection for 2100 relative to 1961–1990, clearly distinct from the historical observations in the charts.
